TEACHING SERVICE ON EVANGELISM
Introduction:
Good morning, beloved congregation. Today, we gather to explore the profound truth that a church that does not engage in evangelism dries up. It is a sobering thought, but it is rooted in the very essence of our faith. We will delve into the Word of God to understand the importance of evangelism and how it sustains and nourishes our church.
Scripture Reading:
Let us begin with a reading from the Holy Scriptures, Matthew 28:18-20:
"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"
I. The Great Commission:
In these verses, we encounter the Great Commission, a commandment given to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He instructs us to go into the world, sharing the gospel, making disciples, and baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This commission is a foundational principle of our faith and a call to evangelize.
II. The Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3-9):
Another significant passage is the Parable of the Sower. In this parable, Jesus teaches us about the different types of soil that receive the seed of the Word. Some soil is unproductive, but other soil is fertile and produces abundant fruit. Evangelism is like sowing the seed, and the more we sow, the more fruitful our church becomes.
III. The Church as the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-14):
1 Corinthians 12 reminds us that the church is the body of Christ, with each member playing a unique role. Evangelism is not the task of a select few but a responsibility of the entire body. When we engage in evangelism, we strengthen the body of Christ.
IV. The Church's Spiritual Nourishment:
The church is not a building but a living, breathing entity. Just as our physical bodies require nourishment to thrive, the church requires spiritual nourishment to grow and flourish. Evangelism brings new believers into the fold, infusing the body with fresh faith and energy.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, dear brothers and sisters, evangelism is not an optional activity for the church. It is a commandment, a responsibility, and a means of nourishing the body of Christ. As we go forth to share the good news, remember that we are not only fulfilling the Great Commission but also sustaining the life and vibrancy of our church. May we continue to be faithful and obedient, for as we do, our church will not dry up but will thrive and bear fruit for the glory of God. Amen.
